A gentle breeze blowing on a lazy afternoon and birds singing in the evening remind us of a simpler time when neighbors greeted each other as they gathered on their front porches to relax and enjoy the events of the day.

19 Ten Cottage is a firm that embraces the allure of historic neighborhoods while including amenities of the modern era. Originating in Charlotte, North Carolina, we are a team that has been inspired by the charm of Charlotte’s historic Dilworth neighborhood. With its nationally lauded Olmsted Brothers design, Dilworth features lush tree lined streets with centrally located parks and quaint cottage and bungalow style homes. The streets are lined with inviting cottages and gardens making this neighborhood one of the most desirable places to live in the country. This backdrop provides the inspiration for our Heron’s Nest environmental village.

 

Heron’s Nest located in Shallotte, North Carolina, is influenced by the craftsmanship, design and feeling of historic neighborhoods. This community uniquely creates an inviting setting that includes exterior living areas that encourage interaction, as well as, relaxation. Heron’s Nest blends with nature and the surrounding coastal estuary. It is carefully designed to lessen the carbon footprint and promote sustainable living.

As an integral element of sustainable living, solar panels are part of the design and reinforce our commitment to lessening energy consumption. Heron’s Nest is created to work with nature and diminish environmental disruption. The size of our cottage homes provides modern comfort without excess. We recognize the importance of outdoor living space and have designed front and back porches providing exceptional space for entertaining, dining, and unwinding. With conveniently designed walking trails, Heron’s Nest provides a great source of recreation for people, pets and wildlife alike. With a special interest in animal and plant habitats, Heron’s Nest has created special areas for animal, bird and plant refuge – the perfect place in a coastal community.
